Monster S Series Single Disc Clutch Rated to 550 RWHP/RWTQ for the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird / Trans Am – (FBODY) 1998-2002

A vast improvement over any other single disc unit in its power rating, the S Series single disc clutch is rated to 550 rwhp/rwtq and is one of our most popular units. Previously our Level 2, these clutches are designed to be daily driven and take a moderate amount of abuse while maintaining perfect street manners and a long life. We utilize pure Kevlar™ friction material along with our 12″ Extreme Duty pressure plate – this mixed with our billet steel CNC machined flywheels make these units very robust and a fantastic value – all of these units are balanced to less than 0.100 OZ/IN at no additional charge.

While these are great for the daily driven setups that will go to the track and rip on the street, these are not intended for extreme racing applications. We do not recommend the Level 2 for setups that utilize nitrous or turbocharged setups simply because the torque spikes often associated with those power adders are just not favorable for this – additionally, we do not recommend any full-faced friction for drifting, for those applications we recommend looking at our more aggressive single, twin, or triple units.

When installed and broken in properly you should expect factory smooth operation and no chatter with a factory pedal effort and engagement feel – the only exception to this is if you are using an aftermarket master cylinder as the larger displacement will increase pedal effort and reduce the engagement window.

    Still breaking it in but overall I’m happy with this kit. One major issue is that the Phillips head screws in the flywheel I received were loose and one was even backed out so much it was digging a channel in the clutch disc. Luckily I caught it early before any serious damage, but that is a massive oversight in QA. Otherwise everything is alright and I have no complaints, just make sure you look over all the screws in the flywheel and make sure they’re tightened down if you’re going to install this kit. A minor nitpick is that the clutch pressure plate uses socket head screws instead of regular hex screws, and they’re in imperial instead of metric. I understand they’re made in Texas and cater to American car brands, but this model of Camaro / Firebird were built in Canada and use metric everywhere else. Just a little annoying to be swapping out standards and socket types for this specific part when you’re working on it, but again it’s minor. All in all it feels very responsive and I have the peace of mind of having a new clutch that will hopefully last for years.
